The StaTioN CaT PoTTerY is housed in a former cattle byre, at The Railway Farm in Logierait.
Overlooking our Hens scratching around in the yard, our Horses grazing and the beautiful Perthshire countryside, I am never short of inspiration for my work.
There are often several different pieces of work on the go at any one time, and I am always working on new creations, too.
The finished pieces are sometimes functional, such as my handbuilt bowls, candlesticks, or jewellery, but also just fun gifts to make people smile, like my hen sculptures, perched on little pieces of reclaimed railway sleeper, or my tall grumpy looking station cats with real horsehair whiskers!
I work mainly in a chunky, sculpture clay which once fired has a lovely rustic black colour, with flecks of stone through it. I mix this with brightly glazed terracotta beads, to make my candlesticks and earrings. Working with clay is such an enjoyable journey for me as the variety of techniques is endless, and glazes can be so unpredictable, opening the kiln after a glaze firing is like unwrapping a gift...although there are sometimes disasters, too !
