Welcome to the Station Cat Pottery Website

Thankyou for visiting the website of The Station Cat Pottery.

I am Fiona Guinan, a self taught, creative Potter, working from my studio in Highland Perthshire, which is a rescued 1950s Railway Carriage. The Carriage has been lovingy restored by my husband, Pete, who is instumental in helping me to realise the dream that is being self-employed, doing something creative that I love.

I am passionate about the environment, and try , as much as possible to recycle discarded objects into my work, giving them a new life.

We are surrounded by woodland and fields here on our Perthshire farm, and the plants and wildlife within them are a constant source of inspiration.

We are lucky enough to have Horses, Dogs and Hens, and these frequently feature in my pieces also.

I am a keen student of the Cello, and enjoy upcycling discarded parts from musical instruments.. I always listen to music when I work.

Unique

Every piece of Station cat Pottery is unique, and designed by me.

Although I make multiple of some pieces ( like the Dragonfly below)  each one is hand cut.

Therefore sizes and shapes will vary. The body of this beastie is an old rusty nail.

Quirky

I like to think that my work will make people smile. Many of my pieces have been heavily influenced by my love of Folk Art .

I particularly enjoy simple forms, that tell a story, and often incorporate poetry into my sculptures.

Sustainable

The Railway Carriage Gallery is entirely Off Grid, and powered by solar panels.

Although I do have an electric kiln, I often " burnish" my work, so that it only requres one firing.

I use only recycled packaging, and boxes that are sustainably sourced.

Work in Progress

Visitors to the Carriage will be welcome to see my workspace, and view work in progress.

I am often working on many pieces at any one time. The workshop can be messy ! but its a brilliant space for creating.
